Background Turquoise Mountain is a non-profit, non-governmental organization specializing in urban regeneration, business development, and education in traditional arts and architecture. We seek to provide jobs, skills, and a renewed sense of pride to Afghan men and women. Since 2006 Turquoise Mountain has cleared 35,000 cubic meters of rubbish from the streets, restored or rebuilt 120 historic and community buildings, created a primary school and a clinic, and installed water, electricity and sanitation through the historic traditional craft neighborhood of Murad Khani in the old city of Kabul. It has created the internationally-accredited Institute for Afghan Arts & Architecture, training the next generation of craftsmen and women in woodwork, jewelry and gem cutting, calligraphy and miniature painting, and ceramics. Finally, it has sold over US$ 5,000,000 of Afghan artisan products internationally. Context Turquoise Mountain aims to transform the Afghan artisan sector into a significant driver of national economic growth and job creation. The business development office is entering the final year of a three-year program, which has been dedicated to creating a self-sustaining and diverse Afghan artisan sector that is able to flourish independently of foreign aid, employing thousands, empowering women, instilling pride, and creating a new, more positive image of Afghanistan around the world. In the context of emerging donor funded projects we are planning on expanding these activities and creating more opportunities for our artisans in the national and international marketplace.

Reporting to the Country Director, the Head of Business Development will be responsible for project and team management in the following areas: 1) Grant Implementation Management Manage the operational implementation of current and future grant(s) that relate to the business development department at Turquoise Mountain. 2) Technical Support Turquoise Mountain will hire international technical and design consultants across a range of crafts including textiles, carpets, jewellery, woodwork and ceramics. The Head of Business Development will have responsibility for deploying and managing these consultants and designers according to the needs of identified SMEs. 3) Logistics & Shipping Solutions The Head of Business Development will work with logistics and shipping experts to identify costeffective shipping solutions and develop a network of regional distributors worldwide who can provide warehousing and logistics support in international markets. 4) International & Domestic Sales One of the key aims of the program is to drive the growth of international and domestic sales of Afghan artisanal products. Working closely with the Head of Sales, and sales representatives based internationally, the Head of Business Development will oversee a number of activities from market research in domestic and international markets, to developing and managing Turquoise Mountain’s brand,,leveraging and expanding Turquoise Mountain’s network of international retail partners, designers, architects and hoteliers, on behalf of Afghan artisan businesses. 5) Outreach & Perception Changing In order to effect sector-wide growth and change perceptions about Afghan products around the world, the Head of Business Development will need to build relationships with key stakeholders across government, NGOs, the private sector and universities, domestically and internationally, providing high level representation for Turquoise Mountain. 6) Apprenticeship & Design Program Work with the Turquoise Mountain Institute for Afghan Arts & Architecture to develop an apprenticeship program for our vocational arts students with local businesses. Help to develop and support the activites of the newly created Design Centre to create an Afghan design DNA and to promote design innovation for the Afghan craft sector. 7) Business Mentoring The Head of Business Development will oversee the Head of Business Mentoring in the implementation of a program providing sector-specific business skills mentoring and management training for artisan businesses in Kabul, Mazar-e Sharif and Bamiyan

شرایط استخدام:Qualifications
Personal Competencies Required • Ability to work simultaneously at the strategic level, with the goal of initiating sector-wide growth, while ensuring the daily management of the program and the attainment of regular milestones. • Appreciation and respect for Afghan culture, people and values. • Ability to manage a diverse team based in different locations and time zones. • An adaptable and energetic problem solver with good communication skills and a sense of humour. • Self-starting, committed, flexible and loyal. Qualifications and Experience required • Bachelor’s or equivalent in a relevant field required; Master’s preferred. • 3+ years field experience in international or development programmes, including demonstrable success in managing complex programmes. • 2+ Experience working with small businesses in developing countries, and supporting them to develop international markets for their products. • Proven track record in delivering broader private sector development activities • Previous work experience in the Middle East, Central Asia or South Asia, preferably Afghanistan. A competency in Dari or Pashto, or a proven record in fast language acquisition, is a significant advantage. • A first rate program manager who can show that they have managed and delivered projects in difficult and demanding circumstances. • Experience of building, leading and developing a team with different backgrounds and expertise. • Experience of building personal networks at a senior level, resulting in securing new opportunities for the organization • Strong understanding of program, financial and operational management processes.
